2014,2016,2017,2018 APAHA Performance and Overall Sire of the Year

It is with great sadness that we said goodbye to the horse that started it all on March 6, 2017. His battle with laminitis became too much for this kind soul. Bittersweet on the anniversary of Sheila’s passing, but it feels like she has called Sundance Kid V home.

“Fill not your hearts with pain and sorrow,
but remember me in every tomorrow.”

Sundance Kid V is known for producing beautiful athletes.  He contributes to his get his size, standing at 15.3 hands himself.   Bone density and substance uncommon to the traditional standard of the Arabian breed as well as powerful muscling, are also found in his babies.  The beautiful shape of his foals’ neck is now the necessary for the winning rides in the Western Pleasure discipline.  His babies are talented movers as a result of the combination of these desirable conformation attributes but the most pertinent part is a trainable, kind, and intelligent mind.

The Arabian Horse Times year end totals for US and Canadian Nationals found Sundance Kid V at the top of many of their lists:

  • #2 Purebred Arabian Point Total
  • #3 Purebred Arabian Winners
  • #3 Purebred and Half Arabian Number Of Winners
  • #6 Half Arabian Winners

Sundance Kid V was also honored in Scottsdale this year as the 2014 & 2016 as the APAHA Performance Sire of the Year.  His son, Zefyr, was also honored as the 2014, 2015 & 2016 APAHA Western Pleasure Horse of the Year.

“When I first went out to Sheila Varian’s, she was showing me around and I would ask about the pedigrees of the horses she was showing me. I noticed very quickly that almost every foal I picked out was by Sundance. Lily Dancer V and May Dancer V were two of those horses that I took back East and they earned a Regional Championship and a National Championship, both in Western pleasure. I didn’t think Sheila would ever sell him but when she was open to my suggestion, Sara and I were ecstatic. He is athletic, balanced and gorgeous. Our inventory is growing and consists of Hunter and Western performance prospects that are striking enough to be shown in the Halter arena as well.” ~Frank Chisholm

PA Kid Khan is the next sire of Palmetto Arabians who is having great success in his show career while already proving himself as a sire. He has everyone excited about him and all for good reasons. This is evolution and breeding the way it is supposed to be. Kid Khan has all the substance, type, mind and ability his pedigree says he should have. He has tremendous size and stands over 16.1 hands high, yet maintains beautiful refinement and a neck with with an amazing shape. He is sired by the legendary Sundance Kid V and shows all qualities of his multi-national champion siblings. His dam side is just as exciting. He is out of the beautiful U.S. National and International Champion Khadraj NA daughter, Kharrea PGA. He indeed has all the right parts. Currently in training with RBC Show horses, Rob Bick had a great 2016 year with him, winning the PB Open Western Pleasure class at Region 12. This horse has big shoes to fill, however seems to be stepping up to the challenge so far!

“PA Kid Khan to me exemplifies what a Junior Western Horse should be. The class specs state that junior western horses are to be judged on substance, quality, performance and manners. Often confused with bulk, substance merely refers to the ability to perform the task at hand. This horse has the refined muscling and angulation to do his job effortlessly. He exudes quality and performed exemplary. He is the true definition of a junior western horse. Guided by his multi talented trainer and horseman, Rob Bick, we are sure to see greatness from this team.”  ~ Bill Melendez

Always A Jullyen V is another product of the iconic Varian breeding program we selectively chose to offer at our farm. A winner in both the halter and performance arenas makes him a true representative of Palmetto Arabians, and his pedigree of Ali Jamaal and Huckleberry Bey renders breeders the true versatility of the Arabian breed with beauty and athleticism, classic type and great ability.

This young sire has awarded us our first Palmetto bred National Champions with PA Millan Always & PA Madrid Always (both out of Milleah, by Millennium LOA).

“The first time I saw Always A Jullyen V, he was showing with Andy Sellman at Scottsdale. He was my favorite colt during that trip because of his show attitude, beautiful color, and markings. When I looked at his pedigree, sired by Jullyen El Jamaal and out of a full sister to Afire Bey V, I found the combination intriguing. He has exceeded our expectations and we hope one day he will rise to be the senior stallion and future of Palmetto Arabians.”
